Halcyon House Wedding, Kim + Ben

This wedding was a lot of fun. It included a chance encounter with an ice cream truck, Kim’s mom Francoise walking her down the aisle, Ben’s collection of bonsai trees as as centerpieces and some wonderful moments. Anne Kelley of Atrendy Wedding did a great job coordinating.

Gedney Farm Wedding, Mary + Brad

Tabard Inn Wedding, Lucia + Michael

Lucia and Michael were married in a small courtyard at the eclectic and charming Tabard Inn in the company of about 50 of their family and closest friends. After the ceremony I snuck the couple away to Meridian Hill Park. It was the perfect time for me to be able to capture some natural, relaxed portraits and for them to have some time alone together.

Whitehall Manor Wedding, Amanda + Nick

Amanda and Nick had a lovely wedding at Whitehall Manor near Leesburg, VA. We all took a deep breath of relief when the threatening rain clouds finally parted and the sun came out just before the ceremony. They are a really fun couple and have great taste in music which was reflected in their playlist at the reception - not your typical stuff. The guys in the last picture were singing along with “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode. I couldn’t help but to jump around with them as I took pictures. Other songs included the Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin. I have to give a shout out to Amanda who is a professional photographer in New York City for so easily letting go and trusting me to capture the day - it was a lot of fun and I’m glad I was able to be there.

Newseum Wedding, Sarah + Ian

Sarah and Ian are one of the sweetest couples that I have had the pleasure of getting to know and photograph. We had rain in the forecast on the wedding day but it didn’t seem to bother them a bit. And when I snuck them out on to the roof deck on the seventh floor of the Newseum as the sun was setting and it began sprinkling, once again they just went with it. Their ceremony at Universalist National Memorial Church on 16th St was absolutely beautiful. Which was followed by a high-energy reception at the Newseum featuring the highly sought after Hudson Project band from New York.

Everything went so smoothly and every detail was perfect thanks to Aimee Dominick and her team from A Dominick Events and the beautiful flower arrangements and bouquets were crafted by Sidra Forman.

Congratulations to Nada and Mina for having their lovely wedding featured in the 2010 Summer/Fall issue of Washingtonian Bride & Groom. I’m so pleased to have had my images selected to be in what is the fourth issue of the magazine which provides a great resource for anyone planning a wedding in this region. Halcyon House Wedding, Kristen + Larry

Kristen and Larry had a lovely intimate wedding with sixty of their closest friends and family at the Halcyon House. The indoor ceremony was followed by an extended cocktail hour in the garden and then a seated dinner in the house. After the ceremony we took a stroll around Georgetown which gave Kristen and Larry a nice chance to relax and get some alone time.

Washingtonian Bride and Groom Unveiled

Couture bridal designer Amsale Aberra shared her Kenneth Pool line with a captivated Washington, DC audience at the second annual Washingtonian Bride and Groom Unveiled bridal show at the Mandarin Oriental. Her collection is said to celebrate the bride who commands the spotlight, and this line, according to her web site, “allows her to express a more elaborate side of her personality.”

The atmosphere backstage was fevered but totally under control. I had an opportunity to go where ever I wanted to go and photograph freely. If only every assignment allowed this much freedom. Things moved at a very fast pace but there were some beautiful moments sprinkled in there.

I have to mention that Ted Gibson, who I had a chance to talk with the night before the show, is a very sweet and genuinely nice man. In the first image he is back stage listing to his introduction before the start of the fashion show.

engagement session outing in Georgetown. From the beginning they extended an unwavering trust to me that enabled me to capture images that are a real reflection of their feelings for one another. Never for a second did I feel that I was intruding on their experience together even as I was right there, close up, almost the entire time.

That day we were lucky and had a steady stream of big beautiful fluffy snow flakes. It was the second time in five years that I have had wedding day snow. It is only evident in one of the pictures below shot from the courtyard in the back of the Meridian House as they spent a few minutes alone together during the cocktail hour. Just after that, once back inside, I found the two of them dancing alone with the bass and piano player who joined them in the room where dinner was about to be served. Alie was tearing up and the few people who have seen that image so far have gotten teared up as well.

Washington DC Baby Portraits, Maggie @ 5 Weeks

Rachel, Chris and daughter Ada recently welcomed a new member to their family. Meet Margaret, or more affectionately know as Maggie. And take a minute to recall the exhilarating feeling of being tossed up in the air by your dad when you were a kid. Ada was lovin’ it.

Washington, DC Engagement Session : Theresa + Alejo

Theresa wrote this to me in an email after I sent her the first picture in this post. After reading it I paused and reflected. I couldn’t have put it any better. I love real moments, real people, and with some trust mixed in, the sky is the limit.

They’re a sweet couple, are also seasoned wedding photographers, and since they know almost everyone in our profession in this area it is such an honor to have been selected to capture their wedding day. It turns out this was the first time they had ever done something like this. Of course they’ve got plenty of snapshots with the point and shoot but they had never had the chance to just cut loose in front of the camera. I had so much fun and can’t wait for the wedding.

Musician Portraits, Jennifer Litwin and Victor Markiw

I had the pleasure of working with two fantastically talented musicians last weekend up in New York creating images that will be included in their new album and marketing materials. Soprano, Jennifer Litwin and Classical Pianist, Victor Markiw are accomplished musicians and performers. They have a passion for their craft and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them warm up together as I was setting up my lighting gear. We spent the better part of an afternoon in a recital hall at Purchase College State University of New York going through a number of different setups. I wish I had an assistant with me but it was a good challenge to work alone. I shot tethered to my laptop and we were able to edit on site and insure that the images were just right.
