Musician Portraits, Jennifer Litwin and Victor Markiw

I had the pleasure of working with two fantastically talented musicians last weekend up in New York creating images that will be included in their new album and marketing materials.  Soprano, Jennifer Litwin and Classical Pianist, Victor Markiw are accomplished musicians and performers.  They have a passion for their craft and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them warm up together as I was setting up my lighting gear.  We spent the better part of an afternoon in a recital hall at Purchase College State University of New York going through a number of different setups.  I wish I had an assistant with me but it was a good challenge to work alone.  I shot tethered to my laptop and we were able to edit on site and insure that the images were just right.  You should listen to some of their music in the player below.

Georgetown Engagement Session, Alie + Bret

I had a lot of fun spending a few hours with Alie and Bret this past weekend in Georgetown.  They got some coffee and then we wandered around one of their favorite neighborhoods, looking at the beautiful homes, admiring the changing leaves and talking about how great dogs are.  I remember them telling me that this had been the first time in a while since they had been able to just relax together.  They have a very natural and loving connection which makes it easy to photograph them.  I’m really looking forward to the wedding now that I have had some more time to gain their trust.  Just over a month to go.

Barack Obama and George Washington

Today I found myself in the East Room of the White House as President Barack Obama signed into law a Veterans Spending Bill which is designed to keep funding for veterans’ medical care flowing during future budget negotiations.  In this image below he stands contemplative during a pause in his speech in front of a beautiful painting of George Washington who with arm outstretched points back to him.  President Obama is interesting to watch as he speaks.  Its actually kind of odd the way he focuses so intently and pauses on the words that he reads from the teleprompter.  I can see the gears in his head moving when he takes a breath between his words and there is so much more that he could say off the cuff.  Regardless, I find the juxtaposition in this picture amusing to say the least.  One can draw all sorts of parallels between the two men.  With four decades of military service and as one who oversaw many battles which resulted in wounded and dead soldiers and eventually the independence of our nation - while the first president may not have supported this bill - I know he would have supported the Americans that it is designed to help, which is how I think President Obama felt today.  The bill may not help the VA and its budget troubles, but the intent to help our veterans is honorable.
