Old Town Alexandria Wedding, Romana + Dan

I love smaller weddings.  Don’t get me wrong though, I do love big weddings too.  But there is something to the simplicity of an intimate affair where the guests are limited to the couples’ closest friends and family.  They relax, spend quality time with each person and don’t stress over the need to work the room.  It can be a challenge for them to find a few minutes of solitude during the buzz of the day.  I encourage couples to take time for themselves.  Even if for five or ten minutes.  Because, before you know it, everyone’s gone home and its over.

Romana and Dan were relaxed the entire time, spent quality time with the people they love, and that energy was reflected throughout the entire day.  Unfortunately some of Romana’s family and friends were unable to make the trip from the Czech Republic where she grew up.  But her mother made the journey and although she was in a sea of English, most of which she didn’t understand, Romana was usually close by to interpret. Though, the emotional vibe of the day transcended the language barrier.  With this wedding, I expanded my understanding of what family is and how love brings more than just the couple together.

Washington, DC Engagement Session : Nada and Mina

I have to run out for an assignment but wanted to post a sneak peek for Nada and Mina from their engagement session on Sunday.  I have the best clients!  They were amazing from the moment we started to the very last frame.  Totally natural, and very much in love.  I will post more soon.

Gladys Monterroso : Human Rights and Amazing Strength

I am constantly humbled by the amazing people that I have the privilege to meet and photograph.  When it comes to this feeling of humility, there are no boundaries between my editorial, portrait, wedding or corporate work.  Amazing people are simply amazing.  Last Thursday I photographed Dr. Gladys Monterroso for the Washington Post and her story will haunt me for a very long time.  She lives with the brutal memory of a harrowing experience that I would never ever wish upon anyone.  Post staff writer Manuel Roig-Franzia tells her story here.
