Washington, DC Baby Portraits - Kay Taylor @ 12 Months

I have the best clients, hands down!  Being given total creative freedom is such a wonderful privilege.  I love how we work together to let moments unfold naturally.  I had a few rough ideas when I walked into Jen and Dudley’s home this weekend to photograph their daughter Kay Taylor, but I did not allow my expectations to dictate the session.  From nap-time to play-time to an outdoor jaunt to lunch we just had a lot of fun and I am so glad to have been able to capture moments and memories that they will have forever.

Meridian House Wedding, Anne + Aaron

I had a chance to sit down for breakfast with Anne and Aaron about a month before their wedding.  It was the first time I met Aaron and the first time I saw the two of them together.  It was great.  They adore one another and are clearly very much in love.  It became even clearer once I saw them together at the ceremony.  The rest of the day just flowed - surrounded by their family and closest friends for a beautiful celebration at the Meridian House.  One of my favorite images is the one below where Anne has her arms wrapped around Aaron and even though they are surrounded by dozens of guests, it seems like they worlds away in a very happy place.

Washington, DC Baby Portraits - Stella @ Ten Months

I had a fantastic family portrait shoot this past weekend with Stella who is an amazing baby full of energy.  She has awesome parents and I am lucky to have had the chance to meet them.  I have been trying to figure out how best to describe what it is that I do when I work with families to capture images of their children and the term lifestyle portraiture seems to fit best.  It is much more challenging than just coming in with a backdrop and lights to do a simple portrait.  Since everyone is different and each shoot is unique, the results depend greatly on natural chemistry that exists without me.  Exactly what we end up with is hard to predict and that is what makes it so much fun.
