Washingtonian Bride and Groom Unveiled

Coture bridal desinger Amsale Aberra shared her Kenneth Pool line with a captivated Washington, DC audience at the second annual Washingtonian Bride and Groom Unveiled bridal show at the Mandarin Oriental.  Her collection is said to celebrate the bride who commands the spotlight, and this line, according to her web site, “allows her to express a more elaborate side of her personality.”

The atmosphere backstage was fevered but totally under control.  I had an opportunity to go where ever I wanted to go and photograph freely.  If only every assignment allowed this much freedom.  Things moved at a very fast pace but there were some beautiful moments sprinkled in there.

I have to mention that Ted Gibson, who I had a chance to talk with the night before the show, is a very sweet and genuinely nice man.  In the first image he is back stage listing to his introduction before the start of the fashion show.

Washington, DC - Blizzard of 2009

I spent the morning out with friends trekking around the Capitol in one of the biggest snowstorms in recent history - about 20 inches or so in just over 24 hours.  Below is one of my favorite images from our outing is of the 2009 Capitol Christmas Tree which sits on the West side of the U.S. Capitol.  On a clear day you would be able to see a long stretch of the National Mall down to the Washington Monument which is about 15 blocks away, but with the snow coming down at about two inches an hour when this image was taken you were lucky to be able to make out the trees that sit about 15 yards away.  A fun fact is that the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service has provided the Christmas trees since 1970.
